01 What Is a Hip Arthroscope?
Although a hip arthroscope is a medical device, it differs from the machinery we typically encounter. It is very small, with a diameter of just 5 millimeters, which means it can perform highly precise procedures with minimal trauma. The tip of the hip arthroscope features a lens; once the instrument is inserted into the joint, the lens allows the surgeon to monitor and examine the condition inside the joint. This allows doctors to visualize the internal conditions more clearly, enabling them to make accurate diagnoses.

02What Conditions Can Hip Arthroscopy Be Used to Treat?
Initially, hip arthroscopy was primarily used for the knee joint, but it has since gradually been applied to other joints in the body. It can be used to treat synovial lesions, hip impingement syndrome, and a range of common conditions such as gout and rheumatoid arthritis. It can also be used as an adjunctive treatment for certain traumatic conditions, such as femoral head fractures and acetabular fractures.
03 Advantages of Hip Arthroscopy
Because this instrument is very small, it does not create a large incision during insertion, which promotes wound healing. Furthermore, the resulting scar is minimal and does not affect appearance. In addition, hip arthroscopy allows for the visualization of all problems within the joint without the need for open surgery. This provides more time to prepare for other surgical procedures and significantly improves safety.
Arthroscopic surgery is particularly effective for treating joint pain and other related conditions; in some cases, patients can even get out of bed and walk immediately after the anesthesia wears off.
04 How to Engage in Scientific Exercise for Recovery
Exercise 1: Breathing Exercise
Key Points: Lie on your back with your upper body flat against the floor and held still. Place one hand on your abdomen and the other on your chest to feel the changes brought about by your breathing. Bend your knees and keep the soles of your feet flat on the floor, keeping them still. Repeat the breathing exercise 20 times.
Exercise 2: Supine Hip Flexion and Straight Leg Lift
Key Points: Lie on your back with your upper body flat against the floor. Bend your knees and hips to a 90-degree angle, keeping your legs naturally apart at shoulder width. Secure the center of the resistance band above your head, then grasp one end of the band in each hand. As you exhale, pull the band down toward your legs; as you inhale, return to the starting position. Repeat this exercise slowly, performing two sets of 10 repetitions each.
Exercise 3: Hip Roll
Key Points: Lie on your back with your entire body flat on the floor. Keep your arms relaxed at your sides, and your legs naturally apart with your feet shoulder-width apart. Keep the leg on the healthy side flat on the floor and still, while rolling the leg on the affected side from side to side—the range of motion does not need to be large. Perform two sets of this exercise, with approximately 10 repetitions per set.
Exercise 4: Chair Rotation
Instructions: Perform this exercise while standing. Before beginning, prepare a chair with casters and place it on the affected side of your body. Keep your upper body upright and still, with your arms hanging naturally at your sides. Keep the leg on the healthy side straight on the floor for support. Place the knee of the affected leg on the swivel chair and swing the leg from side to side. Repeat this exercise, performing two sets each time, with 10 repetitions per set.
The four exercises above are scientifically sound methods that help improve lower limb mobility and prevent postoperative adhesions. Perform these exercises 40 minutes after meals, two to three times a day.
