Why HARISON Fitness Equipment Is Winning Over Hotels (and Guests) Across the U.S.

Let’s be real: most hotel gyms are an afterthought. A creaky treadmill, a broken dumbbell rack, and that weird smell no one talks about. Travelers have learned to lower their expectations—until they walk into a property that actually gets it.

That’s where HARISON comes in.

We’re not just another fitness brand. We’re the company that’s quietly turning hotel workout rooms into legit fitness destinations. And one of our latest installations—at Comfort Inn & Suites Rochelle – DeKalb in Illinois—is a perfect example of why more and more hospitality leaders are choosing HARISON.

The Hotel Gym Problem – Solved

Hotel owners know the drill: guests constantly ask about fitness facilities, but most properties don’t want to sink big money into equipment that takes a beating and looks dated in two years. HARISON changes that equation.

Our commercialgrade machines are built for heavy daily use—think multiple guests per day, 365 days a year. We use highgrade steel, precision bearings, and thoughtful ergonomics that keep workouts comfortable and effective. Whether it’s a cardio session on our whisperquiet treadmills or a fullbody resistance workout on our multistation units, HARISON delivers a gymquality experience right off the hotel hallway.

And here’s the kicker: our equipment is stupidly easy to maintain. Fewer service calls mean happier owners and more uptime for guests. That’s a winwin.

Case in Point: Rochelle, IL

When the team at Comfort Inn & Suites Rochelle – DeKalb (1133 N 7th St, Rochelle, IL 61068) decided to upgrade their fitness center, they didn’t just shop for the cheapest option. They wanted gear that would impress guests, hold up to constant use, and complement their 24hour amenity promise.

They chose HARISON.

Now, their guests can crush a prebreakfast run, knock out some resistance training after a long day of meetings, or stretch out on our mats before hitting the road. And the feedback? Travelers are actually thanking the front desk for having real equipment. That’s the kind of buzz that turns a onenight stay into a repeat booking.

What Makes HARISON Different?

Commercial durability, residential feel – Our machines look sleek and modern, but they’re built like tanks. No wobbling, no squeaking, no shortcuts.

Userfriendly for all levels – Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or a casual walker, our consoles are intuitive, and our adjustments are smooth. No PhD required to change the seat height.

Spacesmart design – Hotels love us because we pack a lot of function into a compact footprint. More machines in less square footage = happier guests and better ROI.

Warranty & support that actually answers the phone – We’re U.S.based, and we stand behind every piece we sell. When a hotel needs a part or a quick troubleshoot, we’re there.

The Bigger Picture: Travelers Are Choosing Hotels with Real Gyms

Postpandemic, health and wellness aren’t trends—they’re lifestyle nonnegotiables. Surveys show that over 60% of frequent travelers say a wellequipped gym influences their hotel choice. HARISON gives properties a competitive edge that shows up in reviews, ratings, and revenue.

And let’s not forget the brand halo. When guests see HARISON equipment, they associate it with quality, reliability, and a commitment to their wellbeing. That positive feeling sticks—and it shows up in their 5star reviews.

To Hotel Owners: Don’t Settle for Mediocre

If you’re reading this and you own or manage a hotel, take a hard look at your fitness room. Is it helping or hurting your reputation? With HARISON, you can turn that underused space into a genuine amenity that drives loyalty and wordofmouth.

We offer flexible financing, turnkey installation, and a dedicated account team that walks you through every step. No guesswork, no hidden fees—just great equipment that makes your guests say “wow.”

Stay Positive. Work Hard. Make It Happen.

That’s not just a slogan on a wall—it’s the HARISON mindset. We believe that every workout, no matter where you are, should be a step toward a better you. And we’re proud to help hotels deliver that promise, one machine at a time.

Dumbbell Rack Organization: How to Keep Your Home Gym Tidy and Safe

A solid set of dumbbells is the backbone of any home gym, offering unparalleled versatility for strength training. However, as your collection grows, so does the clutter. Leaving dumbbells scattered across the floor is not just unsightly; it is a significant safety hazard that can lead to tripped ankles, stubbed toes, and damaged flooring. Investing in a proper dumbbell rack is essential for maintaining an organized, efficient, and safe workout environment.

The Importance of Dumbbell Organization

  1. Safety First

The most critical reason to organize your weights is safety. A home gym should be a controlled environment. Tripping over a 50-pound dumbbell while carrying another heavy weight can cause serious injury. A rack keeps weights off the floor and in a predictable location.

  1. Equipment Longevity

Dumbbells left on the floor are prone to being kicked, dropped upon, or exposed to moisture (especially in garage gyms). Storing them on a rack protects the rubber or urethane coating from unnecessary wear and tear, extending the life of your investment.

  1. Workout Efficiency

Nothing ruins the momentum of a good workout like spending two minutes searching for a matching pair of dumbbells. A rack allows you to organize weights sequentially, making it effortless to grab the right pair and keep your rest periods strictly timed.

Choosing the Right Dumbbell Rack

When selecting a storage solution, the primary considerations are your available floor space and the size of your dumbbell collection.

Horizontal Tiered Racks

Horizontal racks typically feature two or three long shelves. They are excellent for storing large collections of heavy, round, or hex dumbbells. However, they require a significant amount of horizontal wall space, which is often a luxury in home gyms.

A-Frame Dumbbell Racks

For most home gym owners, A-Frame racks are the superior choice. As the name suggests, these racks are shaped like an “A” and store dumbbells vertically.

Advantages of A-Frame Racks:

Space Efficiency: They utilize vertical space, requiring a fraction of the floor space compared to horizontal racks. They fit perfectly into corners or next to other equipment.

Easy Access: The tiered design makes it easy to read the weight increments and grab the dumbbells without excessive bending.

Aesthetics: A-frame racks provide a clean, professional look to any home gym.

The HARISON A-Frame Solutions

HARISON offers a comprehensive line of A-Frame dumbbell racks designed to accommodate various collections and space constraints, ensuring your gym remains pristine.

For Smaller Collections: The HARISON HR-325 6-Tier A-Frame Dumbbell Rack is an incredibly space-efficient and budget-friendly option, perfect for storing a basic set of light to medium weights.

For Heavy-Duty Storage: If you have a complete run of heavy dumbbells, the HR-327 6-Tier A-Frame Dumbbell Racks provide commercial-grade stability, ensuring that even your heaviest weights are stored securely without risk of the rack tipping.

Tips for Organizing Your Rack

Once you have your rack, organize your dumbbells logically:

  1. Heaviest at the Bottom: Always place your heaviest dumbbells on the lowest tiers. This keeps the rack’s center of gravity low, preventing it from becoming top-heavy and tipping over.
  2. Sequential Order: Arrange the weights in ascending order from top to bottom. This makes it intuitive to find the weight you need.
  3. Keep it Accessible:Place the rack in a location where you have enough room to safely lift the weights off the pegs without twisting your back awkwardly.

Conclusion

A cluttered gym is an unsafe and inefficient gym. By investing in a quality storage solution like a HARISON A-Frame Dumbbell Rack, you protect your equipment, maximize your floor space, and create a professional training environment that encourages focus and consistency. Tidy up your space, and elevate your home workouts today.

Adjustable Weight Bench Buying Guide

If you are building a home gym, an adjustable weight bench is arguably the most versatile and essential piece of equipment you will purchase, second only to the weights themselves. Unlike a flat bench, an adjustable bench allows you to train at various inclines and declines, targeting different muscle groups and enabling a vastly wider range of exercises. However, not all benches are created equal. This guide will show you the key features to consider when purchasing an adjustable weightlifting bench.

Why You Need an Adjustable Bench

An adjustable bench allows you to change the angle of the backrest (and often the seat). This simple feature dramatically expands your workout possibilities:

Incline: Targets the upper chest (incline bench press) and front deltoids (seated shoulder press).

Flat: Ideal for standard chest presses, dumbbell rows, and core work.

Decline: Targets the lower chest and is excellent for advanced abdominal exercises.

Key Features to Consider

When evaluating an adjustable bench, prioritize the following characteristics to ensure safety, durability, and comfort.

  1. Weight Capacity and Stability

Safety should be your primary concern. A bench must be able to support your body weight plus the maximum amount of weight you plan to lift. Look for benches constructed with heavy-duty steel frames. A commercial-grade bench will typically have a weight capacity exceeding 800 lbs, ensuring it remains rock-solid even during heavy lifts. If you are an advanced lifter, consider heavy-duty options like the HARISON HR-610 Heavy Duty Multifunction Adjustable Weight Bench, which is designed to withstand significant loads without wobbling.

  1. Adjustability and Ladder Mechanisms

The mechanism used to adjust the bench angle is crucial. The two most common types are poppin systems and ladder-catch systems. Ladder systems are generally preferred for heavy liftingbecause they are faster to adjust and inherently secure—the backrest simply rests securely in the steel grooves. Ensure the bench offers a good range of angles, ideally from a slight decline to a full 90-degree upright position.

  1. Pad Width and Foam Density

The pad needs to be wide enough to support your shoulders during pressing movements, but not so wide that it restricts your shoulder blades’ range of motion. A standard width is typically around 11 to 12 inches.

Equally important is the foam density. You want a firm, high-density pad that provides support and doesn’t compress too much under heavy weight. Soft, squishy pads can cause instability during heavy bench presses.

  1. Gap Between Seat and Backrest

Many adjustable benches have a gap between the seat pad and the backrest pad to allow for movement. A large gap can be incredibly uncomfortable, especially when lying flat, as your lower back or tailbone may sink into the space. Look for benches designed with a minimal pad gap to ensure comfort across all positions.

  1. Portability and Storage

If your home gym is in a multi-use space, portability is a major factor. Look for benches with built-in transport wheels and a handle, allowing you to easily roll the bench out of the way when not in use.

If space is extremely tight, consider a foldable design. The HARISON HR-608G Foldable Adjustable Weight Bench provides the versatility of an adjustable bench while being able to fold down compactly for storage under a bed or in a closet.

  1. Additional Attachments

Some benches offer modular attachments that further expand your training options. For example, the HR-609 Adjustable Weight Bench come with leg extension and leg curl attachments, and sometimes preacher curl pads. These are excellent features if you do not have the space or budget for dedicated leg or arm machines.

Conclusion

Investing in a high-quality adjustable weight bench is a decision that will pay dividends in your

training for years to come. By prioritizing stability, pad quality, and the right adjustment

mechanisms, you ensure a safe and effective workout environment. Whether you need a heavy

duty platform for serious pressing or a versatile, foldable option for a small apartment, HARISON

How to Set Up the Perfect Home Gym on Any Budget

Setting up a home gym is one of the best investments you can make for your long-term fitness and well-being. Whether you are aiming to build muscle, improve cardiovascular endurance, or simply stay active without commuting to a commercial facility, having the right equipment at home ensures consistency. However, navigating the vast array of fitness equipment can be overwhelming, especially when balancing space constraints and budget considerations. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the process of designing the perfect home gym tailored to your specific needs.

Assessing Your Space and Goals

Before purchasing any equipment, it is crucial to evaluate the space you have available and define your primary fitness goals. A spare bedroom, a garage, or even a dedicated corner in your living room can serve as an effective workout area. Measure your floor space and ceiling height, as these dimensions will dictate whether you can accommodate large pieces like power

racks or functional trainers. Equally important is identifying your training style. If your focus is on heavy strength training, your priority should be free weights and a sturdy rack. If cardiovascular health or high-intensity interval training (HIIT) is your goal, you will need to allocate space for cardio machines and

functional movement areas. By clarifying these parameters early on, you avoid purchasing unnecessary equipment that ultimately becomes expensive clothing racks.

Essential Equipment for Every Budget

Building a home gym does not require outfitting a commercial-grade facility on day one. You can start with foundational pieces and gradually expand your collection.

The Foundation:Weight Benches

A versatile weight bench is the cornerstone of any strength training setup. It allows you to perform a multitude of exercises, from chest presses to seated rows and core work. When selecting a bench, look for stability, weight capacity, and adjustability. The HARISON HR-608G Foldable Adjustable Weight Bench is an excellent starting point for those with limited space, offering robust support while being easy to store. For users looking to incorporate lower body work, the HARISON HR-608F Adjustable Weight Bench with Leg

Extension provides added functionality. If you are building a more advanced setup, investing in a heavy-duty option like the HARISON HR-610 Heavy Duty Multifunction Adjustable Weight Bench ensures your equipment can handle progressive overload as you get stronger.

Strength and Power:Squat Racks

If barbell training is part of your routine, a squat rack is non-negotiable for safety and progression. Squat racks and power racks act as your spotter, allowing you to push your limits safely when training alone. For those prioritizing space efficiency without compromising on utility, the HARISON HR-30812 Multifunctional Squat Rack offers a compact footprint. If you have the space and budget to build a comprehensive strength station, the HARISON HR-30611 6-in-1 Multifunction Squat Rack provides incredible versatility, allowing you to perform squats, bench presses, pull-ups, and more within a single footprint.

Cardiovascular Conditioning

Cardio equipment is essential for heart health and calorie burning. The HARISON HR-B15 Magnetic Exercise Bike is a superb choice for steady-state cardio or HIIT sessions.which is particularly beneficial if you live in an apartment or share your home with others.

Flooring and Environment

A frequently overlooked aspect of home gym design is the flooring. High-density rubber mats are essential to protect your home’s foundation, reduce noise, and provide a safe, non-slip surface for lifting. Ensure your workout space has adequate ventilation and lighting. Adding mirrors can also help you monitor your form and make the space feel larger and more inviting.

Conclusion

Creating the perfect home gym is a journey rather than a one-time purchase. By starting with versatile, high-quality essentials like adjustable benches and reliable racks, you lay the groundwork for years of effective training. HARISON Fitness offers a wide range of equipment designed to meet the rigorous demands of both home and commercial environments. Assess your space, define your goals, and begin building a workout sanctuary that empowers you to achieve your fitness aspirations consistently.

Each team brought a well-honed tactical system and rock-solid competitive experience, delivering two thrilling, high-quality volleyball spectacles for fans. When the dust settled, Italy and Brazil emerged victorious, securing their spots in the semifinals.

The Top Eight Take the Court: The Summit Showdown Begins

Italy’s women’s national team, consistently ranked among the world’s elite, entered the tournament as the heavy favorite to take the title. The Netherlands, a traditional European powerhouse, is known for their exceptional blocking height and versatile open-attack approach. With outstanding athleticism across the roster, they excel at grinding out long, back-and-forth rallies.

In the evening’s second match, Brazil faced off against Japan. The game was a rollercoaster from start to finish — Japan drew first blood with an early surge, but Brazil quickly regrouped, sharpened their serving and blocking-counterattack game, steadily took control of the match, and completed the comeback across three sets to advance to the semifinals.

It also effectively boosted serving speed, spiking power, and blocking stability — helping every athlete unlock their peak competitive performance.

Four Powerhouses Converge: The Spotlight Matchups Are Here

On July 23, Turkey faces Canada in a clash that pits European power volleyball against North America’s sharp, up-and-coming style. Meanwhile, the home-crowd favorite, China’s women’s national team, takes on the USA — the top-ranked team in the standings. Both quarterfinal matches follow a single-elimination format, raising the competitive stakes to the max. Lose Weight! This “Lazy” Meal Plan for Office Workers Is Perfect for You

If you have any queries or suggestions, please feel free to reach out via email to info@harisonfitness.com. We will do everything in our capacity to ensure that you love your experience with us.

As office workers, we rely on takeout for all three meals every day. By the time we get home after work, we’re usually too exhausted to even think about cooking—it just seems like too much trouble. On top of that, with our sedentary office jobs, we only manage to stick to our exercise routines sporadically. Yet, the layers of fat around our waists and the swelling in our legs from sitting too long continue to bother us. Here’s a meal plan for your fat-loss phase—be sure to save it right away!~

01 Weekly Meal Plan for People Who Bring Their Own Lunch

Losing fat isn’t something that happens overnight, and pushing too hard will only backfire. For those who bring lunch to work, you can prepare ingredients for the entire workweek over the weekend.

For example, we recommend a stomach-friendly, low-calorie multigrain rice mix as a staple. Combine white rice, red beans, red rice, and purple rice in a 2:1:1:1 ratio, soak for 2–4 hours beforehand, then cook in a rice cooker. Shape the cooked rice into fist-sized portions and store them in the refrigerator. Additionally, sweet potatoes, corn, and pumpkin are all essential sources of high-quality carbohydrates during fat loss.

For vegetables and meats, plan your meals for the week and buy the ingredients accordingly. Of course, be sure to choose options suitable for fat loss that provide protein, dietary fiber, and healthy fats. For example, after chopping vegetables and draining them thoroughly, you can store them in bulk in vacuum-sealed bags in the refrigerator. The same applies to seafood and meats—as long as the vacuum bags are kept dry, the ingredients will stay fresh.

Now that you’ve finished prepping your ingredients, here’s a meal plan formula for efficient fat loss over the course of a week. Choosing ingredients you enjoy and simple, quick cooking methods is what will keep working professionals motivated to stick with it long-term!

(1) Breakfast: Starch (100g–150g) + hard-boiled egg (1) + dairy product / black coffee / unsweetened soy milk

(2) Lunch: Starch (100g–150g) + seafood or meat + vegetables (Recommended eating order: vegetables, meat, starch)

(3) Snack: You can have a small packet of nuts or low-sugar fruit (pears, apples, bananas, pomelos, oranges, etc.)

(4) Dinner: Starch (100g–150g) + vegetables (it’s actually okay to include a moderate amount of high-quality protein as well)

02: One-Week Meal Plan for Weight Loss (Takeout)

In the long run, a bland diet is likely to make people give up. So even if you’re too busy at work to cook and have to rely on takeout, the key to losing fat is simply choosing what tastes good and controlling your portion sizes! Open up any of the many takeout apps available—just be sure to avoid dishes that are high in oil and salt, and pay close attention to the ratio of carbs to fat. Don’t worry—here’s a one-week takeout meal plan for office workers looking to lose fat!

(1) Western-Style Fast Food: Burgers

McDonald’s

Double Cheeseburger, Bacon & Egg Burger, Teriyaki Chicken Burger, Double Cod Burger

Burger King

Fruitwood-Smoked Chicken Burger, Double Cheese Beef Burger, Spicy Chicken Burger, Little King Burger

KFC

New Orleans-Style Grilled Chicken Burger, Juicy Beef Burger, Hong Kong-Style Large Chicken Thigh (skinless), Sichuan-Style Tender Beef Five-Spice

Subway

Sliced Chicken, Roasted Beef, Classic Tuna, Teriyaki Chicken, Seafood & Crab Meat

For drinks, choose American-style coffee + a corn cup or vegetable cup (during fat-loss periods, skipping the sauce on burgers will also reduce calories)

Image

(2) Chinese Fast Food

Shaxian Snacks (Best Value)

Various Business Set Meals: Chicken/Duck Thigh Rice Set (recommended to remove skin; eat one-third of the rice), Beef Brisket Rice + Vegetables/Braised Egg

Spicy Hot Pot, Oden, Maocai (do not drink the broth)

Limit refined carbohydrates; substitute with Chinese yam, potatoes, or corn; Avoid processed meats and starchy meatballs; do not consume sesame paste or chili oil

Rice Bowls (High-Quality Protein + Vegetables + One-Third White Rice)

Tomato Beef Rice, Shiitake Mushroom and Tender Chicken Rice, Tomato and Egg Rice Bowl, Braised Dishes (beef, chicken thighs, duck legs), Pickled Cabbage Fish, Braised Chicken Rice, Stone Pot Bibimbap

Soup-Based Rice Dishes (Control rice portion; do not drink the broth)

Pork Tripe and Chicken, Coconut Chicken, Spare Rib Soup with Rice, Sour Soup with Beef Brisket

Noodle Dishes

Clam Rice Noodles, Cold Noodles, Tomato Rice Vermicelli, Stir-Fried Rice Noodles, Wontons, Liangpi

In addition to the meal recommendations above, you can use the meal pairing formula provided to supplement your choices. When ordering takeout, you can also note to the restaurant to avoid “pouring extra oil” or to reduce the rice portion. Slow down your eating pace and consciously control your portion sizes. By combining these principles with fat-loss meal planning—and prioritizing foods you enjoy—you’ll gradually learn to work with food in a way that helps you stick with your weight-loss journey over the long term.

Keep it up, ladies! Fat loss is really about pursuing health and happiness. Eating less doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll lose weight, but eating the right foods definitely will.

Middle-Aged and Older Adults Should Avoid Sit-Ups; Gentle Exercise Is the Easy Way to Get Rid of a Potbelly

If you have any queries or suggestions, please feel free to reach out via email to info@harisonfitness.com. We will do everything in our capacity to ensure that you love your experience with us.

As people reach middle age, even if they don’t eat much, they tend to gradually “put on weight,” and their entire body starts to look very bloated—especially the abdomen, which bulges out round and plump like a balloon and just won’t go away no matter how hard they try to lose it.

01 Why Is It So Easy to Gain Weight Around the Stomach?

Regardless of age, the human body exhibits the “proximal fat-to-center-of-gravity effect.” The waist and abdomen are where the body’s center of gravity is located, so there is often more fat in the waist, abdomen, and buttocks than in the limbs, and the ends of the limbs tend to be much slimmer than their bases. Therefore, weight gain always starts in the waist and abdomen, and the belly is the area most prone to fat accumulation.

A decline in basal metabolic rate is one of the key factors contributing to abdominal fat accumulation in middle-aged and older adults. As people age, their basal metabolic rate inevitably slows compared to when they were younger. When metabolic rate decreases, consumed calories accumulate and are converted into fat. Additionally, people who lead sedentary lifestyles tend to have very poor blood circulation in the waist and abdominal area, which also contributes to fat accumulation.

02 What Health Risks Does a Large Belly Pose?

Abdominal fat accumulation is particularly likely to lead to various diseases common among middle-aged and older adults, such as fatty liver disease, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. Even if the abdominal fat does not affect one’s health, a protruding lower abdomen or a potbelly can negatively impact one’s appearance.

03 Why Older Adults Shouldn’t Do Sit-Ups

Middle-aged and older adults trying to get in shape may attempt to lose belly fat by doing sit-ups regularly, as most people believe sit-ups can eliminate abdominal fat. In fact, sit-ups are highly unsuitable for middle-aged and older adults! Most middle-aged and older adults have health issues with their lumbar and cervical spines. As people age, these areas undergo varying degrees of degeneration, and sit-ups can easily exacerbate damage to the lumbar and cervical vertebrae. Middle-aged and older adults suffering from lumbar disc herniation should absolutely avoid sit-ups, as doing so will worsen their condition!

Furthermore, sit-ups can cause blood pressure to rise. Many middle-aged and older adults suffer from hypertension, and sit-ups can easily trigger sudden health emergencies caused by elevated blood pressure. Middle-aged and older adults who want to reduce excess fat around their waist and abdomen can perform the following two exercises at home.

Exercise 1: Standing Against a Wall

Key Points: Stand with your body against a wall, tighten your glutes, and press your entire back firmly against the wall. Keep your head, shoulders, back, and glutes aligned in a straight line, with your heels touching the base of the wall. Hold this position for 15 minutes. It is recommended to perform this exercise half an hour after a meal. One set lasts 15 minutes; perform one set each at lunchtime and dinnertime daily.

Exercise 2: Diaphragmatic Breathing

Key Points: Perform this exercise while standing. Breathe in slowly and deeply through your nose. As you inhale, do not shrug your shoulders or expand your chest; instead, draw air into your abdomen as much as possible, allowing your abdomen to expand gradually. Exhale completely through your nose, expelling all the air from your abdomen as it gradually contracts, while keeping your shoulders and chest stable and still. One deep breath counts as one set; perform 20–30 sets daily.

These two exercises are relatively gentle and are ideal for middle-aged and older adults who need to strengthen their abdominal muscles.

In our view, weight loss for middle-aged and older adults cannot be achieved overnight, nor should one blindly pursue rapid results. This demographic should avoid overly strenuous exercise and, whenever possible, tailor an exercise plan to their physical condition, allowing the body to gradually return to a healthy state through a step-by-step process.

Many middle-aged and elderly people who are very health-conscious make it a point to exercise every day. That’s why you can see groups of older men and women exercising in parks both in the morning and at night. However, as people age, their physical abilities decline, and they may find themselves wanting to exercise but lacking the stamina to do so. If you push yourself to exercise despite your physical limitations, be careful—what’s meant to be good for your health could end up hurting you.

01 Some sports can be harmful to your health

Many middle-aged and elderly people enjoy hiking in groups, but many find that those who hike frequently often experience knee pain and difficulty walking. After medical examination, most are diagnosed with meniscus tears or muscle strains, as the damage hiking causes to the knees is nearly irreversible. During ascents, the knee joint bears three times the body weight, and during descents, it bears four times the body weight. It’s not just knee injuries—many people’s kidneys are also affected. Therefore, middle-aged and older adults must avoid strenuous exercise and choose scientifically sound exercise methods to protect their joints and kidneys.

02 These Exercises Are Not Suitable for Middle-Aged and Older Adults

1. Avoid Contact Sports

For middle-aged and older adults over the age of 50, various bodily functions gradually decline. Calcium is continuously lost from the body, skeletal muscle mass gradually decreases, and the resilience and strength of bones and joints drop significantly; bones are far less stable and much more fragile than in youth. Therefore, daily exercise routines should completely avoid highly contact-intensive sports such as basketball and soccer. These sports involve a great deal of rapid running, jumping, physical collisions, and body-to-body contact. Not only do they significantly increase the risk of fractures and joint sprains, but they also make it easy to sustain impact injuries to the lower back; in severe cases, this can affect the kidneys and lead to related physical damage. To ensure exercise safety, middle-aged and older adults should avoid such high-intensity, contact sports as much as possible.

2. Avoid “Power Walking”

Walking is a gentle form of exercise suitable for all age groups and is the most common choice for middle-aged and older adults. However, high-intensity power walking is not suitable for this demographic. As the cartilage in the knee joints of middle-aged and older adults gradually wears down and degenerates, power walking subjects the joints to continuous high-intensity weight-bearing and impact forces. This can easily lead to knee joint wear and strain, triggering problems such as joint pain and fluid accumulation; long-term power walking can severely damage knee health. If you choose walking as a form of exercise, it is recommended to wear knee braces and soft, comfortable athletic shoes, and to adopt a regular exercise routine that alternates between brisk and slow walking. By exercising gradually and progressively, you can not only improve your overall health but also effectively protect your joints.

3. Avoid High-Intensity Exercise

Intense anaerobic exercises, such as weightlifting and various weight-bearing machine workouts, place extremely high demands on muscular explosiveness and the body’s ability to withstand pressure, requiring limbs to bear significant loads during the activity. As middle-aged and older adults experience a decline in muscle strength, physical coordination, and recovery capacity, engaging in such exercises can easily lead to muscle strains, ligament injuries, and even skeletal stress-related damage. Therefore, fitness for middle-aged and older adults should focus primarily on gentle aerobic exercises. Jogging, brisk walking, tai chi, and swimming are all excellent choices. These activities are of moderate intensity and highly safe; they effectively enhance cardiopulmonary function, slow the loss of skeletal muscle mass, and improve overall physical fitness, making them well-suited to the physical condition of middle-aged and older adults.

In summary, middle-aged and older adults should avoid blindly following trends when exercising. They must steer clear of common fitness misconceptions, reject exercise methods that are harmful to the body, and select gentle exercises suited to their individual physical conditions. Only then can they truly achieve the goals of scientific fitness and maintaining good health.
